Fall Prairie Seed Harvest at Atherton Island Natural Area

Everyone is invited to help Ouabache Land Conservancy (OLC) harvest seeds from 3 species of grasses and about 40 species of wildflowers growing in the original 4-acre prairie restoration at Atherton Island Natural Area on October 24th from 9 am to Noon. The seed will be used to supplement other more recent prairie plantings.  Harvesting seeds is an enjoyable activity and an excellent way to learn about the plants of our Indiana prairies as they prepare for winter dormancy.  The morning will include a brief demonstration of how the harvested seed is prepared for eventual planting.

All seed collecting materials will be provided as needed.  No reservations are needed for this free family-friendly event.  We will be meeting at the preserve’s parking area at 6540 W CR 800 S, Rosedale, IN (near Lyford, about 0.7 miles east of Hwy 41).

This event is part of Indiana Land Trust Days sponsored by the Indiana Land Protection Alliance.
