Trail Progress Continues at Bushnell’s North Star Woods
Even on a rainy day, progress continued at Bushnell’s North Star Woods.
On April 18, volunteers from OLC and Hoosier Hikers Council returned for another workday focused on building a loop trail through the property. Despite morning rain and a busy weekend filled with other community events, this group made meaningful headway—pushing the trail forward to a small ridge and an old road that leads toward a creek overlook.
Building Momentum
This work is part of an ongoing collaboration with Hoosier Hikers Council through their monthly “third Saturday” workdays. What began months ago with planning and initial trail cutting is taking shape into a defined route through the woods.
With a strong turnout at the next workday, the team anticipates reaching the end of the loop trail—bringing the project significantly closer to completion. Some sections will still need additional work, but the finish line is now within reach!
A Changing Landscape
Between the March and April workdays, the woods themselves have transformed.
What was once a more open, early spring landscape is now coming to life with fresh growth, changing the feel of the trail and offering a glimpse of what future visitors will experience as they move through the preserve. It’s a reminder that this work is happening in a living landscape—one that continues to evolve alongside the trail being built within it.
