Conservation Starts with Community
Conservation doesn't just happen on nature preserves.
It also happens through conversations at community events, meeting new people, sharing stories, and helping residents discover the natural places right here in west-central Indiana.
That's why Ouabache Land Conservancy participated in Birthday on the Bash, Terre Haute's community celebration of America’s 250th birthday along the Wabash River.
OLC board member Mark Southwick welcomed visitors to our table, answered questions about our preserves and programs, and introduced many people to the work we do to protect natural areas throughout the region. Whether someone was hearing about OLC for the first time or stopping by to share a favorite hiking spot, every conversation was an opportunity to build new connections with our community.
Birthday on the Bash brought together organizations, families, and local residents for a full day of activities along the riverfront, from a community bike ride and color run to family activities, educational exhibits, and opportunities to enjoy one of Terre Haute's best known public spaces.
While the event celebrated many different aspects of our community, we were grateful for the opportunity to represent conservation alongside so many other local organizations working to make west-central Indiana a great place to live.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, ask questions, or learn more about Ouabache Land Conservancy. We always enjoy meeting new faces, reconnecting with longtime supporters, and sharing the places that make our region special.
We look forward to seeing you at another community event soon!
