Celebrating Conservation in Action: Britton Luther Awarded Volunteer of the Year
Ouabache Land Conservancy is proud to announce that this year’s Gerald H. McGlone Volunteer of the Year Award recipient is Britton Luther.
This award is presented to an individual who has made outstanding volunteer contributions to advance the mission of Ouabache Land Conservancy. It is named in honor of its first recipient, Terre Haute attorney Gerald (Jerry) H. McGlone, who continues to serve on OLC’s advisory board.
One of Jerry’s most notable cases involved a river bayou in Sullivan County threatened by private takeover. Jerry pursued a lawsuit arguing the bayou was public property under the Congressional ordinance that created Indiana and other Northwest Territory states. After a 10-year legal battle and jury trial, the 7 Mile Bayou was declared public property, preserving it in its natural state. Jerry undertook this litigation as a public service to the people of Indiana without charge.
Britton Luther embodies this same spirit of service, dedication, and commitment to conservation. We are grateful for the time, energy, and passion given to protecting the places that matter most.
Please join us in congratulating Britton!
